oh my heart.

Looking through facebook tonight, my heart was broken. I saw a picture of a sweet girl who is available for adoption. She happens to have Down syndrome, happens to be 5 years old, and happens to be in an Eastern Europe country. The only thing is, when you happen to be a 5 year old with Down syndrome in Easter Europe, more that likely, your life is over. Once children reach the age of 5, they are aged out of baby homes and transferred to mental institutions. Once there, their heads are shaved, they are put in cribs, (sometimes even strapped down to the bars on their crib) and left.alone. Left alone to lay in their own bodily waste. Left alone to cry out and have no one to come. Left alone to die. 95% of these children will die. alone. starving. Starving for food, starving for love. When i ran across her picture, everything in me said "DON'T LOOK" I knew what i was about to see would hurt. What I didn't know is that it would hurt this much. Look at her face.

Don't you see the desperation in her eyes? don't you see the hollow void in her eyes? I do. So I am and will pray for her. I will pray her home to her forever family. You can go here and help this sweet baby from a life of misery. Help her to feel the love of a mother for the first time. Help her thrive. This, ladies and gentlemen, is redemption at it's finest.
